An Introduction

My mom participates in a lot of art challenges on here, and every once in a while, she tries to get me to do it, too. Normally, my other interests outweigh my desire to do art... but lately I've gotten into it again. 26 days late, but my I know my New Year's resolution now.

I created a blog for it because my main problem is I have no motivation or idea on what to draw/paint/etc (thus, my blog description above). But here I can respond to ideas issued to others.

I'm not one to comment a lot for other people - I'm not good at giving cc, and I don't enjoy commenting just to say "I like it!" - and I'm not very outgoing or super friendly (but I am very nice!), so I don't expect that I'll receive much in return... Well. Except from my mom, probably. But that's okay with me.

Aside from that, I haven't decided whether I want to submit the art I do to the blogs that issue the challenge or not. I get nervous. I'm happy to just post here, even if nobody sees it but me :)

I use mixed medias and try to use vivid colors.

  1. I hope you find that this is as fun as I do and if you do really like something, I know that so many people appreciate hearing it. Sometimes I comment and never receive any sort of acknowledgment. I usually try to respond to comments in my next blog post so people at least do know I cared enough to appreciate their comments. I can assure you will build some pretty neat friendships if you do step outside yourself a wee bit. It is hard to start but eventually we begin to recognize and appreciate each other for just who we are inside. Such a cool community of artists out here in blogland!

  2. Welcome Jessica. I'm glad your mom pushed you enough to make you start blogging. I've been blogging for a little over a year and it has really been enjoyable and does hold me accountable since I've committed to posting a painting every Monday. Finding something interesting to paint is always a challenge.

  3. I am glad I'm not the only one who has a hard time finding something to paint. My problem is more that I am picky than anything. I am not a very big fan of still life, so while I can appreciate other people's paintings of fruit bowls... I would rather watch a movie than paint that!

  4. Good for you Jess! Putting your stuff out there for the blogsphere to see isn't easy. I remember being a young mother and struggling with my art--lots of frustration. Even now that I'm a grandmother, I still run amuck! Posting my own blog has helped me to get back into my paintings, and from what I've seen on your blog, it's helping you too.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

...and artist types often tend to be on the retiring end of the spectrum...

  5. Wow, I think you just made my day... I saw you when I clicked on one of my interests, and then saw in your interests that you liked watercolor. When I went to your blog, my jaw dropped! I wish I could paint like that!! I had to look twice to be sure it wasn't a photo, and it took me several seconds to see (without reading) which was the painting (in your current most recent post).

Thanks for coming to comment, and following me.

  6. That's so sweet of you to say. I think you just made my day!

From what you've posted on your own blog, I think you have a lot of potential. It's not unlike my work when I was your age (I'm thinking early to mid twenties).

There were years when I did very little drawing, and although I always loved watercolors, I knew very little about how to execute it. I've read lots of books on it, but I've never been able to produce a 'traditional' watercolor that I felt good about. I still feel very critical of my work--which keeps me from it at times.

The important thing is to just keep producing...
